Except for her obituary in the Newport Mercury, little can be known about Mrs. Turner. The obituary notes that she died at 87 still possessing reason and memory and had served her community as a midlife and healed those who sought her out with “remedies.” She was the mother of many, and her family included 98 grandchildren, 117 great grandchildren and one great grandchild.
